He shocked the world in 2007 when he appeared in front of the media fit and slimmer at 75kg weight. Recently in his Maldives pictures, he is looking more fit & healthy than before.

Adnan Sami who was weighing 230kg in 2005, has already given so many hit performances in Bollywood. He went missing in late 2005 and appeared in 2007 with his new avatar ‘Slim & Fit.

But he also faced many physical and mental problems due to obesity.

Problem He Faced Due to His Obesity-

Adnan Sami who was 230kg at that time and only 5 feet 5 inches long, suffered many problems at that time-

  • He could barely walk only 5 steps due to his obesity
  • Sometimes he took the support of a stick and wheelchair
  • Due to his massive fat, he was unable to see his knuckles
  • His driver was trained to put his one leg inside the car
  • He was unable to lie down flat on the bed because his extra fat pushed into his lungs causing sleep apnea
  • In 2005 He underwent lymphedema surgery, which required him to bed rest for three months.

His Father’s Words Motivated Him to Lose Weight-

In one of his interviews, Adnan Sami revealed that it was his father’s words, which made him determined to lose weight.

His father who was suffering from pancreatic cancer at that time went with Adnan Sami to London for a routine check-up.

He said in one of the events “He fought cancer but finally succumbed in 2009. During one of those years, while in London for a check-up, he insisted I also get a check-up done. After my check-up, the doctor pronounced before my father I won’t survive for long given my weight.”

“My father then told me he won’t want me to die before him.”

It was a wake-up call for him and then he made up his mind that he’ll lose weight.

He then flew to Houston and hired a nutritionist. From the next day, he adopted a low carb and high protein diet, with no oil, no sugar diet.

Adnan Sami said that his weight loss journey is 80% psychological and 20% physical.

In Houston before starting his weight loss journey, Adnan Sami took his favorite last unhealthy meal consisting of huge cheesecake, mashed potatoes, and a porterhouse steak with plenty of butter.

And the very next day he began his strict diet plan planned by his nutritionist.

Adnan Sami was an Emotional Eater-

Adnan Sami’s nutritionist first studied his eating habits and discover that he is an emotional eater.

  • Adnan Sami’s emotions were deeply connected to food. Whenever he felt happy and sad he ate a lot, and when he felt depressed he binge ate all food and felt guilty about it, but then would eat again.
  • He indulged in a vicious cycle of bad eating habits.
  • To move out him from this vicious cycle loop, his nutritionist put him on a low-carb diet plan.

Adnan Sami gave up white rice, bread, unhealthy junk food, and Soft drinks.

His diet regime started in the morning.

  • Morning- In the morning he used to drink a cup of sugarless tea.
  • Lunch – For lunch, he followed vegetable-based salad with just one teaspoon of fat-free salad dressing along with some fish.
  • Dinner – For dinner, only plain boiled dal or chicken without any rice or roti was his main source of protein.
  • Snacks –Homemade popcorn with a little salt
  • Drinks- sugar-free soft drinks of different flavors with only one calorie.
  • Sweets– For sugar cravings, he ate diet fudge sticks ( with only 30 calories) and diet ice lollies made up of fruits ( only 20 calories)

Adnan Sami said that changing his eating habits helped him to shed extra weight.

Adnan Sami in the initial days of the weight loss journey unable to work out because of his bulky weight, which is 230kg at the time. Workout could cause too much strain on his body and would cause a heart attack. So initially he was dependent on a diet to lose weight.

Adnan Sami Workout Routine-

After he lost 40kg through his diet alone. He then started his exercise routine under the guidance of his fitness trainer in Mumbai Prashant Sawant.

  • Even after losing 40kg, he was still heavy to start his exercise routine.
  • His trainer began his training with a walk for a short distance.
  • When he lost some weight he increased the amount of time on walking and then later started running on a treadmill.
  • After a couple of months, when he lost more weight his trainer started a full exercise routine.
  • He did one hour-long strength training and cardio training, six days a week.
  • Through this training, he started to lose 10kg each month.
  • His stamina increased for the first time in his life he felt fit and even sleep better.

It was Adnan Sami’s determination and willpower that he lose a huge amount of weight.

After losing his weight Adnan Sami sometimes indulge in cheat meals and eats his favorite sweets like cake and muffins, but never stops his workout routine.
