JEE Advanced 2025 Eligibility : JAB Takes U-Turn, Restores Old Eligibility of 2 Attempts !

JEE Advanced 2025 revised schedule

Candidates will only be permitted to take the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Advanced twice as the Joint Admission Board (JAB) has decided to reinstate the previous eligibility requirement.

Earlier this month, the board announced that candidates will be allowed to appear for JEE Advanced 2025 three times in three consecutive years.

JAB Restores Old JEE Advanced Criteria

At the November 15 board meeting, it was decided to change this eligibility requirement and return to the only two attempts criterion that has been in place since 2013. The board stated that all other exam requirements would stay the same as those that were announced on November 5. Here are the additional prerequisites to be eligible to take the JEE Advanced 2025 exam.

JEE Advanced 2025 Eligibility

JEE (Main) 2025 performance requirements: Candidates must rank in the top 2,50,000 (across all categories) BE/BTech paper (paper 1) of JEE Main 2025. The candidate distribution by category, which includes a horizontal reservation for PwD candidates, is as follows: open 1,01,250. EWS General: 25,000 OBC-NCL: 67,500 SC: 37,500 ST: 18,750 In the event of tied ranks or scores, the total number of candidates may be marginally higher than 2,50,000.

Age and Class Restriction

Age restriction: Applicants must have been born on October 1, 2000, or later. Candidates who are PwD, SC, or ST are eligible for a five-year age relaxation.

Class 12 exam appearance: JEE Advanced 2025 is only open to students who took the Class 12 (or equivalent) exam for the first time in 2023, 2024, or 2025 with mathematics, physics, and chemistry as required subjects.

Not Open For Candidates Who Have Been Admitted To College

JEE Advanced 2025 is not open to candidates who have been accepted into an IIT course specified in the JoSAA business rules. Additionally ineligible are candidates whose admission to IITs was revoked after they joined. Candidates are eligible if they were accepted into an IIT preparatory course for the first time in 2024.

No Extension of Application Deadline

NTA Notification Update on JEE Advanced 2025 Exam Attempts

The application deadline will not be extended, according to the National Testing Agency (NTA), which administers JEE Mains, the screening exam for the IIT JEE Advanced. Forms for JEE Mains must be turned in by November 22. Between November 26 and 27, the agency will offer a window for application form corrections.
