National Youth Day 2022: “Arise, Awake and Stop Not Till The Goal Is Achieved” These words of Swami Vivekananda are an inspiration for every youth. This legendary philosopher, social reformer, and thinker had changed the world with his simplicity and powerful words.

Even now his words are serving the purpose of guiding youth to live a confident life and build a character. He spent his entire life teaching the young generation about the importance of character building, social service, and embracing leadership qualities.

Although the world recognized the talent and ideologies of Swami Vivekananda when he was alive, the Government of India decided to honor his thoughts and ideas in 1984. His birth anniversary was marked as National Youth Day and it was celebrated for the first time in 1985.

Several activities and programs are organized to recite his speeches, values, and works to celebrate his greatness.

We don’t need to mention who is Swami Vivekananda? He was a Hindu monk who always gave priority to Yoga and Vedanta. His words were enough to raise faith and spirituality in millions of people. One of his remarkable speeches at the Parliament of the World’s Religions changed the world’s perspective towards India.

Here are some unknown facts to know about Swami Vivekananda

  • Originally named Narendranath Datta, Swami Vivekananda was born on the 12th day of January in 1863 in Calcutta.
  • His mother’s devoted attitude towards God imbibed a deep perspective in young Narendra’s mind about religion.
  • Besides religious and spiritual devotion, Narendranath was a keen reader and very sharp-minded. He could quote exactly word to word of every book he read. And his talent and knowledge in subjects like literature, history, philosophy, and social science was unmatchable.
  • He got several names during his lifetime; one of them was Swami Vividishananda
    Swami was accurate about his death and once said he would not survive more than 40 years.
  • He was a devoted disciple of Swami Ramakrishna Paramahamsa whom he met through trance. His mentor suggested students to meet Ramakrishna to understand the real meaning of this word
  • Since childhood, he was very deeply connected to God but after graduation and not getting the job he lost the faith in God and said he does not exist.
  • He died on 4 July 1902 while meditating. His disciples believed he had attained mahasamadhi
