Mumbai Receives Heavy Rainfall, IMD Issues Red Alert For Next 2 Days

In Palghar and Thane, a holiday has been for all primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools in view of the heavy rainfall alert.

A “red” alert has been issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for Mumbai, indicating that isolated locations will experience heavy rainfall on Friday. Due to the heavy rainfall warning, all primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools in Maharashtra’s Palghar and Thane have been closed on Friday.

According to officials, the Tansa dam started overflowing and 15 of its gates were opened as a result of the incessant rainfall in the catchment area. From these gates, 1,65,000 cusecs of water were being discharged. The Dhamani dam was releasing 8,400 cusecs of water and the Kawadas dam was releasing 21,100 cusecs of water in the Palghar district that is adjacent.

Families Relocated To Mumbai Or Palghar Due To Heavy Rains

Friday brought heavy rain to parts of the Thane district in Maharashtra. As a result of waterlogging, many families had to move out of several residential areas to safety. Traffic on two major highways was also impacted by the rain. A 32-year-elderly person has cleared away in an enlarged nullah close to a spring in Kalwa town of Thane locale while he was fishing in the midst of serious showers.

Suburban’s Railways Got Delayed By Hours

In Mumbai, too, heavy rain on Thursday resulted in waterlogging in several areas, traffic jams on most arterial roads, and delays in suburban train services of both Western and Central Railways. Due to waterlogging at Marine Lines and Borivali stations in the south and north of the network, respectively, Western Railway suburban train services experienced delays of 10-15 minutes throughout the day.
