Since then, every year July 18 is celebrated as International Nelson Mandela Day.

Purpose of Nelson Mandela Day

Nelson Mandela spent his entire life fighting against apartheid and fighting for peace. In such a situation, the purpose of this day is to encourage people to fight poverty, cultural diversity, and peace and reconciliation around the world. This day is also known as 67 Minute Mandela Day. This is because Mandela fought for social justice for 67 years. This is the reason why on this day people are also encouraged to do something good for the country for 67 minutes(International Nelson Mandela Day 2023).

In view of Nelson Mandela’s tireless efforts for peace around the world, in the year 2014, the United Nations General Assembly also announced the introduction of the Nelson Mandela Award.
