Gautam Adani, one of the richest businessmen in the world, is now rapidly expanding his business empire outside India. Recently, his Adani Group has formed a new company for airport business in Kenya. Apart from this, Adani Group has also formed a new company in China. Now news is coming that Adani Group has got a big power project in Kenya. Also, before the elections in India, questions were raised about giving a big power project in Maharashtra to Adani, Adani Power’s bid for bundled renewable and thermal energy supply was about one rupee less than the cost at which the Maharashtra government currently buys electricity.
Kenya’s President’s advisor gave information
Adani Group has got a big contract to lay a power transmission line in Kenya. This information has been given in the report quoting an economic advisor to the President of Kenya. It has been said that India’s Adani Group and a unit of the African Development Bank have been given the contract to lay a power transmission line in Kenya. This contract has been given under the Public Private Partnership concession.
$1.3 billion power project for Adani Group
According to David Nadi, Chief Economic Advisor to Kenyan President William Ruto, the Public Private Partnership concession for laying power transmission lines is worth $1.3 billion. He has said that the government has given PPP concession to Adani and Africa50 through KETRACO to build new transmission lines.
No comment from Adani or African Bank
According to the advisor, the project team is being hired by Adani and Africa. It is a unit of the African Development Bank, which invests in infrastructure projects.
He has also written that the cost of these new transmission lines will be $1.3 billion, for which Kenya will not have to take a loan. However, no official information has been given by the African Development Bank or the Adani Group about this project.
Anger among Kenyans
A separate plan by the Kenyan government to lease the country’s main international airport to the Adani Group has sparked anger among Kenyans and triggered a strike by the country’s aviation workers. The plan involves leasing Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to the Adani Group for 30 years in exchange for Adani investing $1.85 billion in expanding the airport.
Allegations also leveled against Adani Group’s Adani Power Bid in India
On Sunday, Congress leader Jairam Ramesh leveled serious allegations against the Maharashtra government and questioned the decision to award a 6,600 MW power project contract to the Adani Group. Ahead of the state assembly elections, the Congress strongly criticized the decision, calling it ‘Modani Enterprise’, taking a dig at the alleged closeness between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Adani Group chief Gautam Adani.
Shocking revelations of a rigged deal soon: Congress
Ramesh further said that the Mahayuti government of Maharashtra is making this deal in a hurry in the last days in view of the possible defeat in the elections. He claimed that shocking revelations related to this “rigged deal” will be revealed soon. “Even as the Mahayuti government in Maharashtra is heading towards a massive defeat, they have chosen to do just that in their last few days in power. Undoubtedly another Modani venture! Shocking details of this rigged deal are going to come out soon,” the Congress leader said in the post.
What is in the contract given to Adani Power?
