Paying Tribute To Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel On His 71st Death Anniversary

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the man who taught the real meaning of Unity to India, died on 15th December 1950 in Mumbai. He had alone united 562 princely states to create one nation-India. His role in the country’s independence was instrumental and unforgettable.

  1. The real name of Patel is Vallabhbhai Jhaverbhai Patel.

2. There is no record of his original birth date but it is celebrated on 31st October 1875(the date when he passed the matriculation exam). He was already 22 by that time.

3. Patel was not ambitious but later joined a barrister school in London. He completed the course in only 30 months and also topped in finals. Sardar was known as one of the successful barristers of Gujarat at that time.

4. He was not interested in politics as well but a meeting with Gandhiji in 1917 motivated him for it.

5. Sardar Patel played a bigger role in implementing Satyagraha in Gujarat. He helped villagers of the Kheda district to hide their valuables and refuse taxes. His influence was so much that Government bowed in front of him and cut tax rates.

7. Vallabhai Patel had a legal battle with Bose who was left with ¾ wealth of Vithalbhai( Patel’s elder brother). He fought a case against his will in the court who announced the decision in his favor. The money was donated to the Vithalbhai Memorial trust.

8. Sardar Patel received the title of ‘Iron Man of India’ for uniting every princely state to form one nation.

9. He is also known for creating a Steel Frame for a country that is All India Services which earned him another title- Father of All India Services.

10. The first deputy PM of India was featured on TIME Magazine’s cover page in 1947.

11. Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was honored with Bharat Ratna after his death

12. Around 1 million people attended his cremation at Sonapur where he was cremated at the same place his beloved wife was reduced to ashes.

13. A Statue of Unity was built in Gujarat to honor the man who had strengthened the nation. This is the world’s tallest statue with 597 feet of height.
