Toyota has announced the debut of yet another SUV that will expand its Urban Cruiser line-up internationally. Called the Toyota Urban Cruiser Icon, it will go on sale in Indonesia first, followed by other markets. The brand currently sells the Urban Cruiser Hyryder SUV in India South Africa, which is a badge-engineered iteration of the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara.

New Toyota SUV: what is it?
Not to be mixed up with the now-ended Metropolitan Cruiser and the Metropolitan Cruiser Hyryder that we know in India, the all-new Toyota Metropolitan Cruiser Symbol car will be something else altogether. It will be built on the Daihatsu DNGA platform, which is known internally as D03B and is used in models like the Toyota Avanza and the popular Toyota Raize SUV in Indonesia and other ASEAN countries.
Although Toyota is currently calling it the Urban Cruiser Icon, sources tell us that when it launches in Indonesia, this new SUV could be called the “Yaris Cross.”
Toyota SUV Exciting Features
- Toyota already has an SUV by the name “Yaris Cross” in some international markets, and it is based on the TNGA-B architecture.
- It is completely different than the one that will debut next week, which will be longer and more spacious.
- This new car from Toyota will sit above the Raize – that’s four meters long – and will be around 4.3 meters long.
- It will be a five-seat car and is likely to share its wheelbase with the Avanza, which is 2,655mm.
- It could translate into more cabin space than its direct rival, the Hyundai Creta, which has a wheelbase of 2,610mm.
New Toyota SUV expected powertrain options
The new SUV will share its powertrains with the Raize and other Toyota models based on the DNGA platform. It will also come with Toyota’s 1.5-liter petrol engine with and without hybrid tech. This new car from Toyota will sit above the Raize – that’s four meters long – and will be around 4.3 meters long.
When will it come to India?
Toyota is heavily relying on its partnership with Suzuki for local and export models for the Indian market. The brand-new SUV that will be introduced in Indonesia will have a lot in common with Toyota and Daihatsu models that are sold in the ASEAN market, but it won’t have anything in common with the Toyota India lineup, so it won’t be coming here.
Toyota India, then again, as of now has its hands full with the rising interest of the Metropolitan Cruiser Hyryder in India, alongside the Innova Hycross and the once again introduced Innova Crysta. The majority of these models have waiting periods ranging from six months to one year.
