Luxury carmaker Mercedes-Benz India has revealed that it will launch the new Mercedes-Benz G 580 EV with its EQ technology in the Indian market. The company will launch this car in the Indian market on January 9, 2025. The new G 580 EV with EQ technology is an all-electric version of the iconic G-Class, featuring a four-motor powertrain and all-wheel drive. Autonomy of up to 473 km on a full charge.
Design and exterior of Mercedes-Benz G 580 EV
Talking about its design, the G 580 EV has only minor aesthetic changes compared to the standard internal combustion version of the G-Class, At the front, the four-slat grille is actually a closed panel, although buyers in global markets have the option to replace it with an EQ-style blind grille with wraparound lights. Apart from changes in the A-pillar cladding, minor changes have also been made to the bumper.
At the rear, the G 580 EV uses a roof-mounted spoiler and air curtains in the rear wheel arches to help improve aerodynamics. Additionally, the G 580 EV also has the option to replace the trunk-mounted spare wheel with a square storage box that can store charging cables, tools, and many other items.
Mercedes-Benz G 580 EV Design and Interior
The design of the Mercedes-Benz G 580 is almost similar to the G 450d. The grille and EQ badge on it give it a slightly different look. A lot of work has been done to keep it streamlined. There is a new A-pillar design and a new spoiler lip on the front of the roof. A new hood has been installed.
The optional spare wheel holder in the rear trunk can be replaced with a similarly styled charging cable holder. The interior is also largely unchanged from the G-Class, except for a few switches. It has new EV-specific features.
Mercedes-Benz G 580 EV Powertrain and battery
It will have four electric motors, one of which will drive each wheel of the car. Each engine will generate 147 hp of power and all engines will generate 587 hp of power and 1,165 Nm of torque. It will also have a 2-speed gearbox. Mercedes claims that the G 580 accelerates from 0 to 100 kmph in less than 5 seconds. Its top speed is 180 kmph. The battery installed in it aims to give a range of 470 kilometers after charging.
Its front suspension has been significantly improved. At the rear, it has a new rigid axle, with an electric drive unit and a virtual instead of mechanical differential lock to provide optimized torque vectoring. It has a shiftable low-range transmission.
The Mercedes-Benz G 580 EV has three special functions for off-road driving: G-Turn, which allows the car to turn up to 720 degrees in the terrain. The G 580 also has an off-road function that can travel at a minimum speed of 2 kilometers per hour.
