Captain Amarinder Singh who had quit the Congress party earlier this year has now decided to join BJP. On Monday, his Punjab Lok Congress party merged with Bhartiya Janta Party at headquarters in New Delhi.
Law Minister Kiren Rijiju and Agriculture Minister Narendra Singh Tomar were also present at the merger event and gave Amarinder a warm welcome over the merger.

Country Above Party for Captain Amarinder Singh
Tomar said that Captain has always kept the country above the party and that is why he is sitting with us. Along with the former CM of Punjab, 7 MLAs and one MP also entered the BJP.
Second Merger of His Career
This is the second merger of his career. In 1992, he quit the Akali Dal party and formed a new party named Shiromani Akali Dal. After 6 years, he merged the party with Congress.
He served as Punjab’s Chief Minister for 5 years from 2002 to 2007. Earlier this year, Captain Amarinder Singh lost the election and CM’s seat to Charanjit Singh Channi. Unfortunately, his government did not survive long and lost to Bhagwant Mann of the AAP party.
Despite the defeat and breaking up with the Congress party, Amarinder never left the battle of politics. Punjab Lok Congress, which he formed in 2021, has finally got support from the leading party of the country.
A Pre-Planned Merger with BJP
A senior leader of the BJP in Punjab said that Amarinder expressed his intention to merge with BJP in July month. At that time, he was moving to London for spinal surgery.
Amarinder also met Narendra Modi and Shah soon after his return from London. They discussed the security issues of Punjab since the state shares a border with Pakistan. They also talked about narco-terrorism and the holistic development of the state.
