Ayurveda is an almost 3000 years old system of treating humans. The base of this centuries-old medicine is its connection to life and energy. It is believed that everyone has three energies connected to different elements of the universe.  These are commonly called as doshas.

  • Vata dosha- It controls heart, breathing, and intestine functioning
  • Pitta dosha- It controls digestion and metabolism
  • Kapha dosha- This energy is associated with the immune system and body’s stability

Any imbalance between these doshas gives birth to diseases like asthma, obesity, and many more. Thus, the goal of traditional ayurvedic medicine is to bring balance between all three and reduce the symptoms.

  1. It includes simple herbs like Brahmi, turmeric, ashwagandha, Triphala, and more. Few of these are easily available at home and thus common diseases like constipation, cold and cough can be treated at home
  2. Ayurveda cleanse not only your body but also your mind and soul
  3. It also suggests simple remedies for weight loss and stress
  4. Ayurveda reduces the chances of falling sick
  5. It improves the emotional well-being
  6. It is more like a lifestyle than a treatment which helps you live healthy forever if followed from an early age
  7. Most of the remedies come from natural sources so the chances of getting side effects are also low

But these benefits of Ayurveda are not sufficient to call it a winner in Ayurveda vs Allopathy debate. There are disadvantages too, like:

  • No proper recommendations of dosage as per individual’s condition and other criteria like age, and gender
  • It is hard to test the pureness and genuineness of the source of medicines as these are not approved by FDA in many countries
  • Even though there are no side effects promised, taking medicines from a certified practitioner is recommended. Few may feel uncomfortable after taking the dosage.

The goal of allopathy is the same- To cure the illness. Allopathy simply involves the use of drugs and modern treatment methods which are only practiced by certified doctors. The guarantee of recovery and safety of medicines make it more trustworthy in the world but it has limitations too.

  • It treats only a part of the body and does not eliminate the root cause of disease which is claimed in Ayurveda.
  • The diseases can reoccur once the patient stops taking the drugs.
  • There is an interdependency of one medicine over the other in case of many health issues. In other words, one should not miss any single dose.
  • Sometimes even allopathy cannot save the patients from life-threatening disease.
