First Asian woman to score the highest rank in women’s single and 2019 Australian Open winner, Naomi Osaka has recently added a new milestone to her list. By beating Jennifer Brady in the Australian Open 2021 finals, the 23-year old professional tennis player has joined the league of Roger Federer and Monica Seles.
She is third after Sales and Federer to claim the 4th Grand Slam Trophy in the entire career. With this, she is now one of the most recognizable tennis players in the world.

Journey Of Naomi Osaka Till Now
Naomi Osaka is a Japanese player but she has an American accent as well which comes from her father Leonard Mazime Francois. At the age of 3, the Osaka family moved to the United States where she got tennis training along with her sister Mari Osaka.
Both were good at the game but Naomi surpassed her sister and at the age of 16 she won the 2014 Stanford Classic by beating former US Open Champion Samantha Stosur. This was just the beginning.

Career Breakthrough
The 2016 Pan Pacific Open was the entry to the WTA final for the young Naomi where she outperformed every player and became the WTA Newcomer of the Year.
However, she could not do well the next year. 2018 was a breakthrough in her tennis career and grabbed the first WTA title the same year. But, her ranking improved when she entered the 2018 US Open.
First Grand Slam Title
Although it was a little bit bittersweet victory for her, defeating Grand Slam champion Serena Williams was definitely not easy. By doing so, Naomi became the first woman tennis player from Japan to claim the Grand Slam singles title.
By the year-end, she secured the 4th position in the World ranking which she upgraded with her game in 2019.
World No. 1
Among 11 eleven players contesting for the top position in the World ranking, Naomi was the one to be ranked as World No.1 player in singles. None of the Asian players had reached the first position before Naomi Osaka. However, she lost the position after losing a game with Ashleigh Barty at Wimbledon.
In 2020, she won the second US Open title, and the next year she grabbed the second Australian Open title. Naomi’s aggressive playing style gave her an upper hand among other players to reach from the top 150 to World No. 1.
According to the latest WTA Tour, Naomi Osaka is on the second position in the Singles Rankings and Australian tennis player, Ashleigh Barty is holding the World No. 1 ranking.
