Royal Challengers Bengaluru emerged victorious in the competition for the final playoff berth. They beat Chennai Super Kings by 27 runs to become the fourth team to make the playoffs. The Sunrisers Hyderabad, Rajasthan Royals, and Kolkata Knight Riders are the other three teams that have already qualified.
Royal Challengers Bengaluru Qualified For Playoffs
Earlier, Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s top order, led by captain Faf du Plessis, performed well against Chennai Super Kings, scoring 218 for five. Du Plessis scored his fourth fifty of the season with a 39-ball 54, while Cameron Green (38 not out off 17 balls), Rajat Patidar (41 off 23 balls), and Virat Kohli (47 off 29 balls) all went on six-hitting sprees to put RCB on solid ground.
CSK Lost In the Last Over
The chase by CSK never really got going, and at the end of the 18th over, they needed 35 runs from 12 balls. However, Ravindra Jadeja and Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the visitors’ two all-time greats at the crease, were there to help.
It was 184/6 at the end of 19 overs, and CSK needed 17 to qualify. Dhoni hit the first ball for six, but the left-arm pacer held his nerve and hit the right ball to trap the legend deep in the middle of the field. Only Jadeja could score ten runs from the final two balls. Dayal followed it up with a perfect slower shot for a dot ball, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru won by 27 runs to help them qualify for the playoffs.
Good Performance From These Batters
Prior to that, the RCB openers Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis overcame a rain break to score 78 runs together to set the stage.
Rajat Patidar and Green’s partnership for the third wicket of 71 (28 runs) set the tone for the innings, and Karthik and Maxwell completed it.
