- The Forum’s Ruling: The Jodhpur District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum (II) has imposed a penalty of 1 lakh rupees on both Zomato and McDonald’s, citing a violation of the Consumer Protection Act, 2019. In addition to this, they have also been ordered to pay 5,000 rupees towards the legal costs of the case.
- Zomato to Challenge the Verdict: Zomato has expressed its intent to challenge the Forum’s order. The company believes that they have a strong case based on merit.
Zomato’s Defence:
- The Delivery Platform’s Stand: Zomato’s primary argument in this matter revolves around their role as a facilitator. They contend that their responsibility is solely to provide a platform for selling food. Any discrepancies in the order, be it wrong delivery or issues related to the quality of food, should be attributed to the restaurant partner, in this case, McDonald’s.
