#SaveBuxwahaForest campaign is making us recall the aim of Chipko Andolan that began in 1974. That was a women-led protest but this time everyone including small kids has come forward. The voice of more than one lakh people to save the Buxwaha forest is getting stronger each day. All are demanding to stop cutting 2.15 lakh trees. Here’s Why?
“Save Trees, Save Life”
“No Trees, No Oxygen”
“I Need Oxygen Not Diamonds”
These are the words of protestors to save the greenery and wildlife of Buxwaha. They have only one intention because they understand the importance of trees and Oxygen. But, Government and businessmen involved in the Buxwaha diamond mining project are overlooking this crucial cause.
We should not ignore it, here’s why?

What’s The Whole Story Behind #SaveBuxwahaForest Campaign?
Buxwaha is a small village in the Chattarpur district of Madhya Pradesh. Filled with greenery and known for having rare wildlife, the area always catches nature lover’s attention. However, diamond mining companies have shown great interest in the MP region for years due to its mineral-rich status.
Recently, the Buxwaha area (only left greenery here) came out as India’s largest mining area with the possibility of having diamonds worth 3.42 crores karat. According to the recent estimation by the experts, the area could have more diamonds than in the Panna region.
If this is true then it could strengthen the diamond status of India. This is why State Government has given the area on lease to Aditya Birla Group for diamond excavation.
For this, around 2.15 lakh trees would be sacrificed.

It’s not just the matter of oxygen, diamond, wildlife, and locals; Buxwaha forest killing will lower the underground water level as well. The area is already facing a water crisis and diamond mining will increase it further as lots of water is required for it. As a result, MP will face more draught than usual.

Another impact of the Buxwaha project will be huge as it will add more greenhouse gases to the environment.
Risk Of Accidental Mining And Asbestos-Related Diseases
The presence of Kimberlite rocks in the Buxwaha region is the reason why it’s attracting the attention of diamond miners. This will expose the workers more to asbestos which could affect their lungs. Moreover, the risk of accidental mining is high in such kind of project thus health risks are more.
Biomagnification, Habitat destruction, formation of sinkholes, and many more are the risks. But When Money becomes the interest, Nature Suffers and Humans Too!
Let’s not make it a reality and support the campaign- #SaveBuxwahaForest. If you also care for the environment then sign the petition to Save Buxwaha Forest. Let’s join the campaign and raise voice for those who make survival easy for us.
