In a recent announcement, the National Payment Corporation of India i.e. NPCI has given permission to the social media giant to extend the feature for all users across the country. The regulating body has upgraded the status of the secure message app from limited users to available for all recently by removing the #symbol in its list.

This will allow a company to connect with more banks for UPI-based payments. Till now, only four banks namely Axis Bank, HDFC, SBI, and ICICI were working in partnership.

The company had rolled out its new feature last year in November but then only limited users could use it. Though the count of users was 20 million, WhatsApp could not cross the 1 million transactions causing the huge gap.

Now when the limit bar is removed, the surge in transactions is expected. Moreover, the company will now compete with the biggest UPI-based giant PhonePe followed by Google Pay and Paytm. Each of these holds a large share in the UPI market.

However, Whatsapp’s privacy policy can be an obstacle. Well, it’s a future thing but if you have not used the WhatsApp Pay yet, here is how to use it.

How To Use Whatsapp Pay?

• Open the WhatsApp
• Click on the three dots at the top right corner
• Select the payment option
• Add your bank account
• Wait till WhatsApp verifies the bank and sends a confirmation
• A message will pop up on the screen regarding verification
• Now open the chat window, select the user and enter the UPI pin and make transactions

The process is similar to what you do via PhonePe and Paytm but the advantage is you can now directly make payments rather than opening a new payment app every time.
