Syria Government believes that end-to-end encryption offered by the popular messaging platform is not secure. Terrorists and the country’s enemies can use the platform against Syria. This is why the country has not allowed any citizen to use such messaging services.

#3. Partial Whatsapp Ban In Cuba

Unlike the above countries, Cuba has given partial permissions to the citizens regarding social media apps. The reason behind is neither political nor security, but the high cost of internet force users to perform only mandatory operations.

#4. Iran Toggles On Whatsapp Ban

Among all the Middle East/North Africa countries(MENA), Iran is the richest and everyone can easily afford high internet services. Still, WhatsApp is banned in Iran. And the government put restrictions depending upon its interest over political and security issues.

Recently, the Iranian government has also blocked the rival messaging app Signal after more users switched to it over privacy issues.

Later, it uplifted the ban without citing any proper reasons. Telegram, YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter are few useable apps in Iran.

#5. North Korea

North Korea is one of the few countries that do not believe in democracy. So, the ban on Whatsapp is no surprise here and the reason is no different other than Government’s intention to keep the country secure.

No foreign media is allowed in the country thus the world gets very limited information about N. Korea. However, this is not the case with the second part of Korea. Whatsapp is completely accessible in South Korea.
