Undervalued Bollywood Movies that are Related to Social and Economic Issues

Underrated

There were many bollywood movies which were released to spread some social messages and related to economic themes but didn’t go well, due to some reason. Maybe some audiences are not used to some kind of sensitive subjects, whatever maybe the case but these movies emphasized on such stories that had some relevance to create influence on people. Let’s observe some of these Underrated movies which touched on social or economic subjects.

1.Phir Milenge


This movie came in 2004 and starred Shilpa Shetty, Salman Khan and Abhishek Bachchan. Phir Milenge highlighted the sensitive topic of HIV positive and AIDS, it even tried to aware the people. Tamanna Sahni played by Shilpa Shetty who was a successful creative head of Big Ad agency was expelled from her office and was treated with biasedness when people came to know that she is HIV positive and had to suffer so much torture and humiliation of society, all this seemed o quite realistic, in our society when someone have this disease we label them with negative character traits. Well this movie was great but don’t know why didn’t made a mark.

2. Shikhar

This movie released in 2005 and starred Ajay Devgan, Shahid Kapoor, Javed Sheikh, Amrita Rao and Bipasha Basu. Shikhar dealt with greed versus nature them.Here a big and ambitious entrepreneur and builder played by Ajay Devgan  wanted to build the city by destroying the nature . He tried to trick a man known as Guruji played by Javed Sheikh and other innocent people to destroy the Ashram and the cultivable land ,on this land Guruji makes

Ayurveda medicines in his Ayurveda pharmaceutical industry with the help of natural and organic things in order to help needy people and adivasis. He was adamant and didn’t agreed to greedy builder and in the Guruji wins. Actually this movie had good story but it was maybe not edited well.

3.Traffic Signal

A low budget movie made by Madhur Bhandarkar with not much big cast, it starred Kunal Khem and Neetu Chandra in lead roles. This movie moved around the problems of poverty, street beggars , prostitutes and destitute of Mumbai, who spend their lives by sleeping on the roads of Mumbai and face the adversities of street life.

It mainly dealt with the story of how Silsila played by Kunal Khemu was caught by big Don and how he ruined his life cruelly. But this movie was also underrated

  1. Corporate

Going by the name, this movie dwelt upon the activities of Corporate which are many times unethical too, in order to maintain the reputation and good profits corporate world go to any limits which are not right ethically. This movie is also directed by Madhur Bhandarkar and starred Bipasha Basu, Rajat Kapoor, Raj Babbar and KK Menon in main roles.

Here Nishi played by Bipasha Basu was entrapped in the sordid tactics of her own company’s owner Vinay Sehgal played by Rajat Kapoor who launches a soft drink with chemicals . When he was exposed in the media, he convinces Nishi to sacrifice for the company by taking blame with the promise that she will be released soon, as the organization’s owner supports a politician also.

He also convinces and promises Ritesh Sahani played by KK Menon who was his brother-in-law and beau that Nishi will be released soon. But in the last Ritesh died and Bipasha Basu was not released as politician refuses to release her due to elections and Sehgal befriended his rival. This movie unveils the whole real scenario of corporate world.

  1. Rocket Singh: Salesman of the Year

This was a big banner film under Yash Raj Productions starring Ranbir Kapoor in the lead role. It was a comedy and sarcastic film which focused on honest business practices versus corrupt practices. It basically deals with the marketing practices adopted by the company. Organizations basically work with the promise to give priority to customer satisfaction but actually it never happens and they resort to the practices of bribery.

And such practices  was condemned by Harpreet Singh Bedi played by Ranbir Kapoor, he was a B.Com graduate . He joins a big computer assembly and service company as a Salesperson. He disliked his company’s corrupt corporate culture where only through bribery contracts are acquired from clients, there is no importance of customer satisfaction. Thus he starts his own company with his own terms and conditions where even a tea guy was a leader and it fully on consumer gratification goals.
