Tyre Nichols should be alive. Yes, the police officers who brutally murdered him must be held accountable. But even their conviction on the strongest possible charges cannot bring Tyre back. We must do everything in our power to end police violence against people of color.

We have to talk about this institutionalized police culture. It is important for the community that we no longer tolerate abuse. #CallOutTheCulture

The effort to separate the officers who murdered Tyre Nichols from the system of policing that produced them is palpable.
Police killings in the US reached a record high in 2022. That has only been rewarded with more funding at the expense of schools, hospitals, housing, & more.

If they say “get on the ground”’and you get on the ground, say “I’m on the ground” and you STILL get tased and pepper sprayed.
What else are you supposed to do but run?
So much for that whole “if he only he had complied” narrative.

Diversifying the police force doesn’t end racism because racism is inherent to the organization of the institution & its daily operation. Racism is what policing is

The brutal and violent killing of Tyre Nichols by officers sworn to protect the community is unconscionable.
Justice for Tyre Nichols must be swift and complete.

You don’t have to watch the video of #TyreNichols being beaten by police.
You don’t have to subject yourself to that trauma.
It should not require another video of a Black human being dehumanized for anyone to understand that police brutality is an urgent, devastating issue.

I don't understand how you can, almost 11 years after Trayvon Martin, still be the sort of person calling for more police-reform efforts like body-cameras. These guys did this to Tyre Nichols with all the cameras rolling.
