Latest Update: The Union Cabinet Decides 30% Reduction In Salary

New Delhi: Monday, The Union Cabinet took a major decision on the salaries of all MPs.  The Salary, Allowance, and Pension of Members of Parliament Act, 1954 will get amendment and it is already approved. The new amendment says that there will be a 30 percent reduction in the salaries of MPs. This reduction is also on their allowances and pensions for one year. It is approved and will be effective from April 1, 2020.

The Union Cabinet decides to take this decision to get support for the fight against coronavirus. On this, The Union Minister Prakash Javedakar says that it is voluntary. As a part of social responsibility, not only MPs but also the state governor’s salary reduction will be there. Also, President, Vice President, and PM Modi are also taking this reduction.

All the money from this reduction will go to the Consolidated Fund Of India. Besides the salary cut, there is news of the suspension of a fund scheme- “Member of Parliament Local Area Development.” Now, all the funds will be useful in managing health services. The suspension of this scheme is until 2022.
