The Skoda Kylaq: The vehicle is the latest addition to Skoda’s expanding SUV lineup. Looking at the silhouette, it looks like Skoda has a sub-4 metre SUV on its hands. The new vehicle will compete with other popular picks like the Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet. The price and size segment is extremely competitive with the growing shift from hatchbacks to compact SUVs.
Skoda Kylaq: What to expect?
Early teaser images and design sketches suggest a familiar Skoda design language with a split headlamp setup, a slatted grille design and pronounced surfaces with a kinked glasshouse. Its wheelbase will be shorter than the Kushaq, and spy shots also hint at the Kylaq being cut down on the front and rear overhangs to bring it into the sub-4-metre segment. Skoda also says that it will be the first model to bring the brand’s ‘Modern Solid’ design language to India, with typical SUV characteristics.
Modern, bold and muscular
The Skoda Kylaq will be the first implementation of the company’s Modern Solid design language in India. It also features a hexagon pattern on the side and rear of the car and details like refined and precise DRL light signatures have been added. The Qlaq also has high ground clearance and space around the wheel wells to tackle uneven road surfaces which gives the car an SUV character.
Powertrain
The Kylaq is expected to be powered by Skoda’s 1-litre TSI turbo-petrol engine that powers the lower and mid-spec variants of the Skoda Slavia and Kushaq. This engine makes 115 PS and 178 Nm, and will likely be paired to a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic transmission.
