Parental leave reduced from 4 months to 2 weeks in Twitter

Parental leave

Twitter, run by Elon Musk, is apparently taking even another drastic step to save costs after laying off 50% of its workers. Twitter will no longer provide 20 weeks (four months) of paid parental leave, according to a tweet by The New York Times tech correspondent Kate Conger. Instead, there will only be two weeks available

According to the story citing “internal docs,” Twitter is considering changing its parental leave policy in light of the law. The US does not have a federal statute that ensures employees have access to paid leave. But some states have put measures in place to safeguard the workforce.

Tweet Regarding The Parental Leave

Conger tweeted, “Twitter used to provide 20 weeks of paid parental leave to employees. According to internal documents, that will be altered to whatever the local law in the area where the employees work requires, plus a “top up” of two weeks of vacation.

Twitter has not endorsed the modification to its parental leave guidelines. Contacting the business is similarly challenging now that Musk has fired the whole PR staff. Only the poop emoji is used as a reply in Twitter‘s media email.

Twitter’s Layoff

Twitter’s past leadership has been charged by Musk with operating the business in a non-profit manner. He fired half of the Twitter team after taking over in October 2022, and further staff members were let go in the months that followed.

Currently, the company employs about 1,500 people, down from over 8,000 by the end of September 2022.

It is very interesting to note that, Musk purports that Twitter does not require a lot of workers to run

Perks Reduced Even More

Along with layoffs, Musk has reduced employee perks like free lunches to reduce costs. Additionally, he terminated some Twitter offices, including those in India. Even earlier this year, the business held a special auction for overstock products.

Additionally, Twitter is testing a new subscription service called Twitter Blue, which now ensures the coveted Blue tick next to profile names.

Earlier, the Blue tick indicated that the profile is genuine and of public interest. The current iteration of the Blue Tick signifies that the user has confirmed his or her cellphone number and is a subscriber to Twitter.

Is Musk Fit For The Company?

Musk isn’t the appropriate fit for Twitter, according to Jack Dorsey, a co-founder of Twitter. When Twitter was acquired last year, Dorsey retracted an earlier statement he had made for Musk.

“I also don’t believe he acted appropriately after understanding his timing was off. I also don’t believe the board ought to have compelled the transaction.

Everything went wrong. But that did happen, and what we can all do now is create something to stop it from occurring again is. So I’m glad Jay and team and nots developers are working on it,” added Dorsey.
