Oscar 2023: 95th Academy Awards ceremony has begun and it’s proving to be a great year for India as they have already grabbed two awards taken by Elephant Whisperers for Best Documentary Short Subject and Naatu Naatu for Best Original Song. Now, everyone is very familiar with Naatu Naatu from the film “RRR” but very few of us have even heard about the “Elephant Whisperers“.
Oscar 2023: Elephant Whisperers Made India Proud
Elephant Whisperers is a short documentary directed and produced by Kartiki Gonsalves and Guneet Monga respectively. The short film was widely appreciated for its concept and filmography. The film is basically about the lovely bond between an Elephant and a couple he grew up with.
Elephant Whisperers: Film Summary
The short film is about an orphan elephant named Raghu who was left alone without anyone to care for him. Bomman and Beli, an indigenous couple found Raghu and started to take care of him. The elephant grew up with the couple and shared a deep emotional bond. Elephants are known for their memory and love for their family. Elephant Raghu became close enough to the couple that they were emotionally connected like a family.
The documentary also shows the great beauty of nature as it was filmed at Mudumalai National Park which is known for its greenery. The short film was released on the OTT platform Netflix in 2022.

Elephant Whisperers is the first documentary to ever win the Oscars award in the history of Indian cinema. Earlier two Indian documentaries got nominated for Best Documentary Short Subject:
- The House That Ananda Built in 1969;
- An Encounter With Faces in 1979.
Oscar 2023: Elephant Whisperers: Victory Celebration
The short film was produced by Indian female producer Guneet Monga. She was widely applauded for her work and she also shared glance of the award winning moment via her Twitter account.
She cheered up at the stage during Academy Awards 2023 and thanked her parents, co-producer, and her husband Sunny.
Tonight is historic as this is the first ever Oscar for an Indian production.
