Mahindra Thar 5-Door Production Begins Ahead of Launch in August

The upcoming Mahindra Thar 5-Door, which could be called the Thar Armada when launched, has been one of the most awaited new car launches for 2024. Sources tell us that series production of the Thar 5-Door has begun at Mahindra's Chakan plant.

Mahindra & Mahindra has reportedly begun production of the upcoming 5-door Thar ahead of its launch in the Indian market in August. As per reports, unofficial bookings have also begun at some dealerships for the model likely to be known as the Thar Armada.

What is special about Mahindra Thar 5-Door

The exterior design will see minor changes compared to the current three-door model, but the interior will get significant improvements incorporating several premium features and advanced technology. Retaining the classic boxy shape and tall pillars of the Thar nameplate, the new model will emphasize its strong and authentic 4X4 capabilities, while stepping into new territories with enhanced practicality and spaciousness. Thus, it will attract a larger set of customers.

Mahindra Thar 5-Door Features and Interior

With its extended wheelbase, the Mahindra Thar Armada promises a more spacious cabin and luxurious interiors. It will get a dual-tone dashboard, white seat upholstery, panoramic sunroof, electric and ventilated front seats, automatic AC and rear AC vents.

Other key features include reading lamps for rear passengers, standard 6 airbags, Level 2 AIDS, 10.25-inch touchscreen display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto integration, digital instrument cluster, LED lighting all around, auto-dimming IRVM, adjustable headrests, cooled glovebox and pillar-mounted inner door handles.

Mahindra Thar 5-Door Engine and Specifications

Mahindra Thar 5-Door could potentially get the 2.0L medallion four-cylinder petrol engine that produces 200 PS and 380 Nm. Apart from this, there is a 2.2L mHawk four-cylinder diesel engine that offers 175 PS and 400 Nm. There could also be a possible smaller option, which would be a 1.5-litre diesel engine that offers 117 PS and 300 Nm. The engine will be mated to a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic transmission, sending power to all four wheels as standard.

Expected Price

With an expected starting price of over Rs 15 lakh (ex-showroom), the upcoming model will compete with the recently launched 5-door Force Gurkha. It will also be positioned above the Maruti Suzuki Jimny. Built on a ladder frame, the five-door Thar Armada will share many components with the Scorpio N.
