International Day Of Clean Air: Top 10 Indian Cities With Cleanest Air

‘International Day of Clean Air’ holds immense importance for the world specifically for India as it ranks 4th globally for air pollution. More than 20 cities across the world with the most polluted air are in India where Delhi and Ghaziabad top the ranking. But, Indian cities with the cleanest air outrank the numbers as there are more than 100 such cities with good AQI and PM 2.5 values.

They don’t just have a clear sky but also have clean air. We are listing the top 10 places listed under the report prepared by the Central Pollution Control Board of India.

The northeast part of India has particularly better air quality than other parts and Shillong tops the list. The AQI value of this hill station is only 15.

#2. Rajamahendravaram

Andhra Pradesh’s Rajahmundry, also known as Rajamahendravaram, is the second cleanest city in India with a 15 AQI value. It is situated in the east of Godavari District and is famous for the ISKCON temple complex, ancient Shiva temples, and rich literature works.

Karnataka’s Daal Bowl is one of the cities with the least air pollution in India. Yadgir’s AQI value falls on the green line of the Air pollution level with a total score of 18. People living here are, thus, at lower health risk than other cities of Karnataka such as Mangalore, Bijapur, Hassan, and more.

#4. Raichur

Raichur or Raichore, the city in Karnataka, has clean air with an AQI value of 20. The city is surrounded from north and south by Krishna and Tungabhadra River respectively.

#5. Kalaburgi

Karnataka’s largest northern city which has an abundance of limestone deposits and is known for Pigeon Pea offers healthy and clean air to the citizens. Kalaburgi/Kalburgi stands at the fifth cleanest city in India with an Air Quality value of 22 in the index.

#6. Amaravati

blankAndhra Pradesh’s capital city Amaravati has a low air pollution level with an AQI value of 23 in the CPCB’s List. It is named after Amareshwara Swamy and holds one of the largest Buddha Stupas in the country.

#7. Agartala

The capital city of Tripura and India’s smallest state is a safe place for living in terms of air quality Index. Agartala also has 0.56 times of recommended PM 2.5 concentration level by WHO. The current concentration is 14 against the threshold value of 25.

#8. Puliyur

Puliyur is a small town in the state of Tamil Nadu with approximately 10,000 population. It has the cleanest air and common pollutants such as O3 and NO2 have very low concentrations. The latest AQI of Puliyur is only 10 as per IQAIR.

#9. Kohima

The Naga’s home and second-largest city of Nagaland pose no health risk to healthy individuals. Kohima stands at 64th position in the CBCB list with an AQI value of 45. It is also the capital city of the state.

#10. Vapi

Gujarat’s ancient city, Vapi, is one of the cleanest cities in India which is safe even for vulnerable populations. However, it stands on the borderline of AQI value with a total score of 49.

Vrindavan, Tirupati, Siliguri, Mysuru, Nagpur, Kochi, Kolar, and many more cities are on the list which has AQI value under 50. However, those with AQI higher than 50 are also considered safe and they fall under the satisfactory category.
