Income Tax Department of India issues a 10 digit number that serves as a unique identifier as mentioned under the Indian Income Tax Act, 1961. Central Board for Direct Taxes is a supervisory body under which the IT dept issues PAN.

Who Can Apply For Pan Card?

Anyone who lives in India and is above 18 is eligible to get this document but it is highly mandatory for those paying taxes. Those running a business and non-resident of India also fall in eligibility criteria.

In order to file an application, the user must have the following documents ready. These are:

  1. Identity Proof

Identity proof documents such as a valid driving license, a passport, Aadhar Card, a pensioner card, ration card. If you don’t possess any then a health scheme card issued by the central government is also valid. An identity certificate issued by Gazetted Officer or a bank certificate signed by the branch head of the bank where the user has an account is also valid.

2. Address Proof

One should show that he/she is a resident of India. For this, a copy of the electricity/water/landline bill or even a gas connection card can serve as the address proof. Passport, driving license, domicile, aadhar, a bank account statement, employer certificate, and even passport of the spouse can be submitted.

3. Date Of Birth Proof

Another important document that the issuer asks for is D.O.B proof. If you are married, you can show a marriage certificate or else a driving license, birth certificate (if you have one), and passport and matriculation certificate can be used.

How To Apply Pan Card Online- Know In Easy Steps

  1. Choose between service providers, you can either apply at NSDL or UTITSL websites. Click on the link and you will go to the application form page
  2. Fill in the details such as the Type of Application you want. If this is for an individual, select New PAN and enter a name, D.O.B, and tick the checkbox. Enter captcha code and click submits.
  3. The second part is to submit the necessary documents. You can even choose to submit documents digitally or physically or via e-KYC.
  4. Next, choose whether you want a physical Pan Card ( fees applicable ) or a digital one ( no fees).
  5. Select your options and fill in details for identity, address, and D.O.B proof.
  6. After filling in personal and contact details, you will be asked to fill AO code. If you do not know this, enter your state and city. Choose the area displayed on the table below and the AO code will be filled automatically.
  7. The next step is submitting documents as per the option you selected and payment which is only Rs. 120 including all additional charges and taxes. Pay the fees and authenticate the documents digitally.
  8. The service providers will forward the application to the issuer. Once it is verified, you will get the Pan Card delivered to the address mentioned.

[Note: Make sure the details you fill in are correct or else your application will be rejected. A user can apply for Pan Card only once.]
