Every story has two sides; Users should have done it before as enough time was given by the government. The official notice was issued even a year ago when the deadline was 30th June 2020. Due to the pandemic, it was extended till March failing to which can attract the following consequences:

  1. Late fees up to Rs 1,000 as per the Section 234 H of the new Finance Bill
  2. Inoperative PAN Card will make it difficult to file Income Tax failing to which can also bring legal consequences
  3. Restriction on any financial transaction
  4. A further penalty of Rs 10,000 assuming the non-issuance of PAN Card

Thus, it is mandatory to link for which users have two options. Either they can directly do it via the official website or SMS.

Here are the steps:

1. Open the e-filling portal
2. Go to the Link Adhaar section
3. Fill in the mandatory details correctly like your name, adhaar number, and PAN card number
4. Verify the CAPTCHA and click on the Link button
5. The process ends with a confirmation message on the screen

In case you are opting for the second method, use your registered mobile number to send your adhaar number and PAN number with space in between and send an SMS to 56161 or 567678 for linking. And those whose documents are already linked can check the Link Adhaar status from the official website.
