Today is the birth anniversary of the 10th and last Guru of Sikh, Guru Gobind Singh Ji. He was born on 22nd December 1666 in Patna, Bihar according to the Julian calendar. 

So, on the present-day calendar, his 356th birth anniversary will be celebrated on 29 December this year. 

A divine messenger, poet, and warrior who spread the light of justice all over India. He never claims himself a God. 

He said, “Those who call me God, will fall into the deep pit of hell.”

Guru Gobind Singh Ji was born on 22nd December 1666 in Patna, Bihar. His mother’s name was Mata Gujri and his father was the ninth guru, Guru Tegh Bahadur ji. 

There was an interesting story related to his birth. When he was born a divine light shone on the sky at night. A Muslim mystic Pir Bhikan Shah performed namaz in the direction of that light. 

He was guided by this divine light and traveled to Patna. He saw that child as a test of whether that child was a divine messenger or not. He offered two bowls of milk and water signifying both supreme religions Hindu and Muslim. 

A child placed hands on both bowls and Pir bowed to him with respect.

His father Guru Tegh Bahadur 1670 took his family to Punjab, Anandpur. 

Early in 1675, a group of Kashmiri brahmins under the leadership of Pandit Kirpa Ram visited Anandpur to seek the advice of Guru Tegh Bahadur. 

Kashmiri Brahmins were troubled by Aurangzeb’s religious conversion demand. 

Guru Tegh Bahadur advised the Brahmins to return to their village and told them to tell the authorities that they would accept Islam if the Mughals persuaded him to do so.

Later he traveled to Delhi for a formal meeting with the Mughals but was beheaded on November 11, 1675, and 13-year-old Guru Gobind Singh ji was installed as the 10th Guru of Sikh.

Creation of Khalsa Panth and Other Missions of Guru Gobind Singh Ji

Sikhs with their Guru Gobind Singh ji had gathered at Anandpur in large numbers for the institution of the Khalsa on 30th March 1699. 

Battle of Chamkaur – It was the main battle where his two-son martyred.

After the Anandpur was sieged by Raja of Bilaspur Guru Gobind Singh ji reached to Chamkaur. 

In the battle of Chamkaur barely 40 Sikh armies bravely fought with 10 lakhs of the Mughal army. His two sons Ajit Singh and Jujhar Singh were martyred in the battle. 

And with the help of two Muslim devotees, Gani Khan and Nabi Khan he escapes into the wilderness of Malva.

Wrote Zafar Nama to Aurangzeb

The Zafarnamah was sent by Guru Gobind Singh ji to Mughal emperor Aurangzeb, which touched the heart of Aurangzeb. 

He wanted to meet the Guruji and invited him to Deccan but before Guruji’s arrival, Aurangzeb died at Ahmednagar on 20th February 1707.

Later in his life, Guru Gobind Singh Ji helped the last Mughal emperor Bahadur Shah. 

This closeness between the two angered Nawab Wazir Khan, who secretly conspired in the murder of Guruji. 

Wazir Khan sends his two men Jamshed Khan and Wasil Beg. They stabbed the Guruji below the heart as he was resting on his couch. 

Bahadur Shah after hearing this news sent his surgeon to aid Guruji but when his God’s call came, he died peacefully at Nanded on 21st October 1708. 

Guru Gobind Singh Ji was a light of Justice who held the sword to support the oppressed and fight against the tyrants.
