Gobar-Dhan Bio CNG Plant Inaugurated In Indore

On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated Asia’s biggest Bio-CNG plant “Gobar-Dhan” in Indore. As addressing the event, he said the plant was a very important initiative for creating “garbage-free cities” under Swachh Bharat Mission Urban 2.0. The plant was established for taking the best use of the wet waste from houses, animals, and farms in villages.

The event was also attended by Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chauhan and Union Minister Hardeep Singh Puri.

1. Gobar-Dhan was established on 15 acres of trenching ground of Indore Municipal Corporation. The construction was funded by a public-private partnership with an investment of 150 crores.

2. The plant can produce 19,000 kg of Bio-CNG from 550 tonnes of wet waste per day. Soon, the produced gas will be used to run 400 buses in the city.

3. The CNG plant has several other benefits like reduction in greenhouse emissions, etc.

4. As estimated, the Municipal Corporation of Indore will earn around 2.5 crores per year from the Gobar-Dhan Bio CNG Plant. And they did not spend a single rupee on it.

5. Fifty per cent of the fuel produced is going to be used in public transport vehicles at the rate of Rs 5 per kg. While the remaining amount will be sold in the open market.

6. The project of Gober-Dhan was implemented by three companies:

  • Indore Clean Energy Pvt Ltd

  • Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC)

  • Indo Environment Integrated Solution Ltd (IEISL)

7. The estimated period of construction of the plant is 18 months, but it was completed in only 15 months. That’s the biggest achievement in the covid period.
