Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj is the most admirable ruler in Indian history and a founder of the Maratha empire. He is known for his bravery, battle strategies and administrative skills. Approximately, he had won over 250 battles in his life.

Battle Of Mysore Plateau (1677)

It was the greatest battle of Shivaji’s life between him and his stepbrother Venkoji on November 1677. Shivaji won the battle and conquered the Mysore plateau. After seeing brothers at war, Venkoji’s wife, Dipa Bai asks Shivaji for negotiation. So, he respected her and returned Mysore to Venkoji.

Battle Of Surat (1664)

Battle of Surat was fought between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Inayat Khan. Shivaji attacked Surat and looted all possible treasures from the Mughals and Portuguese. Later, the treasure was used in the development of Maratha state.

Battle Of Poona (1663)

This battle was fought when Aurangzeb’s maternal uncle Shaista Khan seized Pune with an army of 3,00,000. Shivaji secretly entered Pune along with 200 Marathas and killed his sons and other members of the family. However, Shaista Khan escaped the place.

Battle Of Sinhagad (1670)

This battle was fought by Shivaji’s trusted soldier Tanaji Malusare in 1670. The battle was against Udaybhan Rathod and Jai Singh I who seized the Kondana fort. And the fort was under the control of the Mughals. In the absence of Shivaji, Tanaji was sent on a mission with a small army. Marathas conquered back the fort but with the loss of Tanaji.

Battle Of Umberkhind (1661)

The battle of Umberkhind was fought in February 1661, between Shivaji and Uzbek General Kartalab Khan. In order to reduce Shivaji’s influence in the Konkan region, Mughals secretly attacked and conquered the land.

But Shivaji was well prepared and attacked them at Umberkhind. Shivaji not only won this battle but also captured a large number of arms and ammunition from Mughals.

Battle Of Pavankhind (1660)

When Marathas conquered so many places, Mughals formed an alliance to kill Shivaji. The enemies blocked the supply chain for Marathas from every region and attacked. Shivaji fought this great battle against the Mughals.

Battle Of Pratapgad (1659)

This was the first battle won by Marathas and led to the formation of the Maratha empire. At that time, Afzal Khan was destroying Hindu temples. When Shivaji get to know about this, he warned Afzal and organised a meeting with him. During the meeting, Khan tried to stab Shivaji but he got spared because of his armour. Shivaji fought back and kill Afzal Khan.
