CP Gurnani further told the publication that the use cases of generative AI are still being defined. He said, “I am so happy about the generative AI. To me, it did not take away jobs. It created jobs. Technology is the heart of everything.”

CP Gurnani, the MD and CEO of Tech Mahindra also spoke on the current state of the tech industry, particularly in the western areas where many businesses are turning to mass layoffs as a result of macroeconomic factors. He believes that the current situations do not indicate a “tech winter,” but rather that new opportunities are going to appear. Gurnani continues, “Opportunities are just opening,” emphasising the US’s capitalism system, in which the tap may be turned on and off as needed.

NR Narayan Murthy, the founder of Infosys, recently said that generative AI-based tools like ChatGPT and Bing AI won’t replace humans. He said, “I think there is a mistaken belief that artificial intelligence will replace human beings, human beings will not allow artificial intelligence to replace them.”

In an interview with PTI, Milind Lakkad, the HR head of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) said that generative AI would be a co-worker. Milind Lakkad believes ChatGPT-like tools are a “good thing to happen for the future,” adding that such tools “will be collaboration rather than replacement.”

Tech Mahindra and Infosys have not clarified if the companies use generative AI for work. On the sidelines of NASSCOM Technology and Leadership Forum 2023, Murthy claimed to have used ChatGPT.

TCS HR Lakkad, claims that the company uses “such inputs in select pockets” and that a significant amount of the work will be completed over the next two years.

On the other hand, some companies are already using AI to replace human workers. BuzzFeed Media, a media company, is using ChatGPT to create unique content for the website, such as quizzes. The tech-focused website CNET is reportedly cutting staff and using AI to produce some content, according to a report by The Verge earlier this week.
