Infosys founder Narayana Murthy spoke about the significance of two important qualities that new recruiters must have: a value system and competence, during the Nasscom Tech and Leadership Conference 2023 in Mumbai.

Murthy says that a employee have the capacity to carry out a work effectively and efficiently can be evaluated immediately, making it a one of the most important requirements

According to Murthy, higher-level employees should have this key quality because it is a more difficult process to determine whether a senior employee understands the company’s principles and can act quickly to improve it.

He said “That will only come out in situations where their values are tested…Value system verification is a tough task. I have no solution to that problem. But by taking quick and decisive action, you send a message to everybody in the company that this will not be tolerated and that’s a reasonable deterrent,”

According to reports, Infosys fired 600 freshly hired employees due to their poor performance on an internal assessment test given by the technology company. It is interesting that Wipro allegedly fired 400 trainees after their training period was over for consistently failing poorly on tests.

The announcement of the layoffs is not a surprise given the fact that some well-known tech companies fired thousands of employees in the first two months of 2023. As Amazon laid off 18,000 workers, Google gave termination warnings to 12,000 staff. Several people were disappointed by the 11,000 employees at Meta who were laid off. All people who lost their jobs are having difficulty finding new jobs, but those with H1B visas were particularly affected because they had a short 60-day window to find a new job.

In the tech sector, layoffs started in 2022, and companies are still cutting staff to reduce costs. Many former employees have claimed on LinkedIn that tech companies have fired even those who had worked for years or received high ratings for their performance, despite the fact that some companies claim that layoffs are based on performance and the need for specific roles.
