It is noteworthy that this applies to the Electric Vehicles that are made with a battery pack as a structural unit. For example, Tesla Model Y, BYD Atto 3, Kia EV6, and Hyundai Ioniq come with a battery pack as a structural unit. 

They are forced to tear the Electric vehicle in these cases and refer to the car as a total loss. The reason for this is due to the battery as a part of an electric vehicle shows up to 50% of the car’s cost and changing the battery becomes a costly matter. 

This clearly states that if you get small damage over your battery pack, you may have to tear the car.

Tesla, the biggest electric car maker in the world had not mentioned any issue with insurers writing off electric vehicles. 

Although, in January, the chief executive officer, Elon Musk revealed premiums from third-party insurance firms “in some areas were absurdly high.”

This purport is applicable when a car is either stolen or damaged after repair. Tesla has revealed that it is working on a new design for its EV to draw the repair cost as well as the insurance premiums.
