Coronavirus Lockdown: First Special Train Runs To Ferry Stranded Migrants

The coronavirus lockdown has left many migrants stranded in other states. They are suffering due to lack of food, shelter and are missing home. The state govt asked the centre to arrange facilities to bring back their stranded migrants.

Earlier UP govt brought back students fro Kota, and then Madhya Pradesh govt also followed them. A special train made a journey from Telangana to bring migrants back to Jharkhand.

Arun Kumar, Railway Protection Force director general told to Hindustan Tims:

“The train is ferrying nearly 1,200 migrants in 24 coaches…The train left from Lingampally in Telangana to Hatia in Jharkhand at 4:50 am today,”

South Central Railway spokesperson said that the train made a journey after getting special permission from Telangana Govt.

“All necessary precautions such as prior screening of passengers, (and) maintaining social distancing at station and in the train were followed,” 

The Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Tweeted:

“I appeal GOI (government of India) to allow special trains to bring migrants from distant places,”

People who wish to go should undergo a screening and if they are found asymptomatic then only they are allowed to proceed. Social distancing is followed during the travel to avoid any mishappening.
