Usually, the South Indian movie industry is known for creating quality content and Bollywood is for copying that. But that’s not what happens all the time, sometimes south Indian creators also copy movies from Bollywood.

I know it sounds unbelievable nowadays, but it’s true. After a little research, we’ve found 10 Bollywood films that were remade by the south.

And not only once, but many of them were also copied two or three times. So, check out the list below.

10 Bollywood Films That Were Remade in South

1. Munna Bhai MBBS & Lage Raho Munna Bhaibollywood films remade in south

Munna Bhai is one of the most famous characters of India. Both Munna Bhai MBBS and Lage Raho Munna Bhai were massive hits.

But do you know, the whole series of Munna Bhai was remade by south industry in various languages? It has total four remakes, three of Munna Bhai MBBS and one of Lage Raho Munna Bhai.

Munna Bhai MBBS Remakes

Tamil Remake: Tamil film industry made its first remake in 2004 so-called Vasool Raja MBBS. The movie stars Kamal Haasan, Prakash Raj, Sneha, Nagesh, Prabhu, etc.

Telugu Remake: In the same year, the Telugu industry released Shankar Dada MBBS with Chiranjeevi, Paresh Rawal, Srikanth Meka, Sonali Bendre, etc.

Kannada Remake: Two years later, the Kanada industry showed us Uppi Dada MBBS starring Upendra Rao, Annat Nag, Chi Gurudutt, Uma Shankari, etc.

Thereafter in 2006, Rajkumar Hirani released the second instalment, Lage Raho Munna Bhai. Then once again in 2007, Chiranjeevi’s Telugu franchise copied the story and released Shankar Dada Zindabad.

2. Andhadhunbollywood films remade in south

Andhadun is the second Bollywood film with the highest number of south remakes. It was released in 2018 and collected a massive amount at the box office.

Then in 2021, both Telugu and Malayalam industries realised their remakes and even in the gap of one month. Can you believe it?

Andhadhun Remakes

Telugu Remake: In September 2021, the Telugu industry released the first remake titled Maestro. Its star cast includes Nithiin Reddy, Tamannaah Bhatia, Nabha Natesh, Jisshu Sengupta, etc.

Malayalam Remake: In the very next month, we see one more Andhadhun remake named Bhramam. It stars Prithviraj Sukumaran, Raashi Khannna, Mamta Mohandas, Unni Mukundan, etc.

Tamil Remake: At last, there is also an upcoming Tamil remake Andhagan, which will release in December 2022. It will feature Prashanth Thiagarajan, Priya Anand, Rishibala Naval, Samuthirakani, etc.

3. A WednesdayA Wednesday

A Wednesday is also one of the Bollywood films that were remade in the south. It is based on the problems of the common man regarding terrorism and deserves to be remade in various languages.

So, after its grand release in 2008, both Tamil and Telugu film industries remade and released it in their respective regions.

And the interesting part is that both movies feature Kamal Haasan in place of Naseeruddin Shah’s character and were released in the gap of only one day.

A Wednesday Remakes:

Tamil Remake: The Tamil industry released its remake named Unnaipol Oruvan. It stars Kamal Haasan, Mohanlal, Ganesh Venkatraman, Anuja Iyer, etc.

Telugu Remake: Just after a day, the Telugu industry released Eenadu with almost the same star cast. It features Kamal Haasan, Duggubati Venkatesh, Ganesh Venkatraman, Poonam Kaur, etc.

4. Band Baaja BaaraatBand Baaja Baaraat Remake

I think everyone does remember Ranveer Singh’s first movie Band Baaja Baarat. It is one of the best movies of his career and people still watch it.

Band Baaja Baaraat Remakes:

Telugu Remake: In 2013, Band Baaja Baaraat was unofficially remade as Jabardasth. It stars Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Siddharth.

Tamil Remake: Titled Aaha Kalyanam, the official Tamil version was released in 2014 with Nani and Vaani Kapoor.

5. OMG: Oh My God!bollywood films remade in south

OMG: Oh My God is another movie that needs to be remade in various languages to spread its educational message about God.

However, it is one of the most controversial movies in India. But Telegu and Kanada industry dares to remake it and succeed.

OMG: Oh My God! Remakes:

Telugu Remake: First of all! The film was remade in the Telugu language so-called Gopala Gopala. It features Duggubati Venkatesh, Pawan Kalyan, Shriya Saran, Mithun Chakraborty, etc.

Kanada Remake: One year later, the Kanada industry also released its remake Mukunda Murari starring Upendra Rao, Sudeep, P. Ravi Shankar, Prakash, Belawadi, etc.

6. 3 Idiots3 Idiots Remakes

3 Idiots is one of the best scripts of all time presented by Bollywood. It features Aamir Khan, Sharman Joshi, R Madhavan, Boman Irani and Kareena Kapoor Khan.

Seeing its strong message and huge box-office success, the Tamil industry released Nanban starring Thalapathy Vijay, Jiiva, Srikanth, Ileana D’Cruz, and Sathyaraj.

And not only south, but 3 Idiots was also remade by Hollywood, titled 3 Idiotas. That’s a huge achievement.

7. Jab We MetJab We Met Remake

Shahid and Kareena’s love story Jab We Met was also remade in Tamil as Kanden Kadhalai. It stars Bharath Srinivasan and Tamannaah Bhatia.

Honestly saying, this film decreased the reputation of south cinema. Because not only the storyline, they even copied the outfits of Jab We Met.

8. Delhi BellyDelhi Belly remake

2011 comedy-drama Delhi Belly was a massive hit at the box office. It stars Imran Khan, Vir Das, Kunaal Roy Kapoor and Shenaz Treasurywala.

And in 2013, the south film industry once again remade one of the Bollywood films. That was a Tamil movie so-called Settai.

It features Arya, Hansika Motwani, Santhanam, Premgi Amaren, Anjali, etc.

9. Pyaar Ka PunchnamaPyaar Ka Punchnama Remake

Pyar Ka Punchnama is not only a film, it’s an emotion of boys. You can relate to every single scene of this movie with your life. We’ve never seen a concept like that before.

So in 2014, south cinema released its copied version Green Signal for their Telegu audience. It stars LV Revanth, Chammak Chandra, Gopal Sai, Manali, Anandhi, Shilpi Sharma, etc.

However, Green Signal was a disaster at the box office.

10. DabanggDabangg Remake

Salman Bhai & Sonakshi Sinha starer Dabangg also grabbed the attention of south movie creators. So, just after two years, they remade its Telugu version Gabbar Singh, which features Pawan Kalyan and Shruti Haasan.

Apart from these blockbuster movies, there are some other Bollywood films that were remade by south Indian cinema. They include Jolly LLB, Pink, Kahani, Don, etc.
