Former RBI Governor Raghuram Rajan turns 58 today. He is an Indian economist and Professor of Finance at the University of Chicago. He was the 23rd Governor of the Reserve Bank of India. He was also the 15th Chief Economic Advisor to the Government of India from 2012 to 2013. The economist also held the position of 7th Chief Economist of the International Monetary Fund. Sounds great!   1. Raghuram Rajan was born in a Tamil family in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. He completed his graduation in BTech from IIT Delhi.
  2. After studying BTech, the economist pursued MBA from IIM Ahemdabad. He later discovered his interest in finance and economics and done a Ph.D. in the same. He holds Ph. D. in the theory of financial decisions from MIT.

  3. He spent most of his childhood in Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Belgium, Bhopal, and Delhi.
  4. He was designated as the first non-westerner and youngest Economic counselor and Director of Research at IMF.
  5. The economist has also written several books on the economy, finance, market, and reforms. His books exhibit his deep knowledge and understanding of the economy and financial system.

  6. Raghuram Rajan improved the Indian economy in 2013 when the country was facing stagflation with no economic growth but high inflation and an increase in unemployment.
  7. The professor married the love of his life, Radhika Puri Ranjan, whom he met in IIM during his MBA. Radhika is also a Professor at the University of Chicago Law School.
