Apple may be introducing a number of changes to the widely-used MacBook laptops. Despite the new versions of MacBooks that have had some hardware innovations, the basic design and features are still the same. But according to a recent report, the tech giant from Cupertino, California, could be integrating touchscreen capabilities into its Macs. The first MacBook with a touchscreen could be coming out in 2025. Also, Apple could be introducing its OLED display technology to its laptops as well. Currently, Apple laptops make use of Liquid Retina LCDs while the Super Retina OLEDs are available only on iPhones and Apple Watches.

Despite Apple already having iPads in the tablet segment, they have been hesitant to incorporate touchscreens in their computers, while many of their competitors in the laptop industry already have two-in-one laptops with touchscreen displays, such as Dell and Lenovo.

According to a Bloomberg report, Apple engineers are working on a touchscreen MacBook Pro that could be released as early as 2025. The design of the new MacBook Pro would stay the same, with a keyboard and trackpad, but with the inclusion of a touchscreen. Moreover, the MacBook Pro is also expected to replace its LCD screen with an OLED display, which Apple has already brought to its iPhone and Apple Watch models and could be seen on the iPad Pro in 2021. Although Apple usually offers iPads in the tablet segment and has been reluctant to include touchscreens on its computers, the new MacBook Pro may be the first of its kind.

For years, speculation has swirled that Apple would incorporate OLED displays into its MacBooks and iPads. Last year, an analyst anticipated that this would happen in 2024. However, on Wednesday, TF Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo tweeted that the tech giant could put out an OLED MacBook even earlier than originally thought, before the close of 2024.

Rumours about an OLED MacBook have been around for some time and last year, an analyst predicted that Apple could possibly introduce OLED displays to MacBooks and iPads in 2024. On Wednesday, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from TF Securities tweeted that, aside from changes in the display, Apple may be developing a new keyboard with dynamic functions for future MacBook models. This keyboard is said to include keys that light up and change their functions depending on the context. Additionally, the LEDs illuminating the key symbols and lettering are believed to be able to show animations and videos.
