At its event, Apple unveiled a new MacBook Pro laptop that includes both variants of its M2 generation chip, and a Mac Mini with the M2 Pro variant. This means that almost all Apple products are now powered by its own chip, with the exception of the Mac Pro – which is now over three years old and running an Intel chip.

Apple’s M2 Pro and M2 Max chips boast 12 and 38 cores respectively, along with 32GB and 96GB of RAM. Apple claims that the M2 Max has “industry leading performance per watt” and is the “world’s most powerful and power-efficient chip for a pro laptop”. The chips also feature dedicated media engines and 16-core Neural Engines.

Apple has upgraded their 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro laptops with the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips, claiming that they are six times faster than the Intel-powered MacBook Pro they had previously sold.

The 14-inch MacBook Pro is available at a price point of ₹1,99,900, while the 16-inch model is priced at ₹2,49,900. The Mac Mini is offered in two variants, with the M2 model priced at ₹59,900 and the M2 Pro variant selling for ₹1,29,900.

Interestingly, despite a significant drop in the worldwide demand for PCs, Apple has released the latest versions of its computers. According to a Gartner report from January 12, the December quarter saw a 28.5% year-on-year decrease in global PC sales, and a 16.2% YoY drop for the calendar year 2020.

India, told Mint that Apple is experiencing a surge in demand from businesses, leading to an increase in the company’s presence in the country.
