India Gets First Case of XE Variant in Mumbai  

India did not have any case of a new omicron variant named XE until reports from Mumbai get revealed. As per the reports, a fully vaccinated 50-year-old woman from Mumbai is tested positive for the new variant. Around 376 samples were taken, out of which 228 were positive with the Omicron variant and only one with the XE variant.

She arrived from South Africa two months ago and took the covid test. Reports were negative then but results of routine tests during her stay in Mumbai were found positive. After this, the woman who is a fashion designer by profession was quarantined in the hotel where she was staying. The woman has no serious symptoms as per BMC.

XE variant was first detected in the United Kingdom and reportedly it is dubbed as the most transmissible variant of omicron. It is a combination of BA.1 and BA.2 which are two other versions of Omicron.

WHO has warned that this new omicron variant is highly transmissible and is a cause of concern.  Earlier, experts believed that BA.2 variant was highly contagious.

TIGS Director Rakesh Mishra has also urged people not to panic. He has also said that the present trend can make the XE variant the most dominant strain. It may bring a new wave of pandemics in the near future.
