WhatsApp To Roll Out New Feature, Converts Voice Messages Into Text

WhatsApp

Typically, WhatsApp does not concentrate on a single platform when releasing a new feature. Both iOS and Android OS now support many of the instant messaging app’s latest features.

However, the business only made a special feature available for the iOS platform. The way things stand, the Android platform might not get this new function any time soon.

A fresh update has been sent to the TestFlight Beta Programme by the firm. The version number for this most recent update is 2.23.9.70. Voice Message Transcription is the name of the update that is now accessible to a select group of beta testers.

The feature that converts voice communications into text allows the recipient to read the message instead of listening to the audio.

Quite Helpful For Awkward Situations

When the user finds themselves in a situation where they are unable to play the audio, this is quite helpful. As a result, communication will become much more flexible and available.

Beta testers who downloaded the iOS TestFlight app can presently use this functionality. Some beta testers are currently receiving the new feature from WhatsApp, and more testers may be added in the upcoming days.

A bubble will appear beneath the voice messages if the user turns on the feature. The user will find it much simpler to read the audio message’s content as a result.

This functionality will be automatically enabled upon an update. If the user decides not to utilize it, they can deactivate it. Simply go to WhatsApp Settings > Chats > Voice Message Transcript to turn it off.

It’s important to note that this function keeps end-to-end encryption intact at all times. This is due to the fact that the transcribing occurs on the consumers’ phones. It takes use of the device’s pre-installed language packs.

This implies that not all iOS devices will support transcription. The voice transcriptions can now be processed locally on the device thanks to the use of the most recent iOS 16 APIs.

Users can also search for specific material within the voice messages using the transcription feature. To enable this, the device automatically indexes the voice note transcription.

With this, a user can easily conduct a search for a specific piece of content even if they have a large number of voice notes. All that needs to be done is for the user to enter a specific keyword from the voice note into the search bar.

The particular text from that particular audio message will then be highlighted in the transcription. Since the user won’t have to listen to every audio file one by one to find a specific message, this will save a tonne of time.
