Now, Snap Inc. – the parent company of Snapchat – is taking its AR technology one step further by launching its first venture into selling the technology to business customers.

With their new AR Enterprise Services (ARES) division, Snap is aiming to help companies build AR features into their websites or apps to enhance photos and videos of the real world with computerised images.

Snap’s first product, Shopping Suite, will help companies create features that allow customers to try on clothes, view products from all angles in 3D and make more informed purchasing decisions. This could help increase sales and reduce returns for the companies. The company is also using artificial intelligence (AI) to take two-dimensional images and make them appear 3D, helping to reduce the time it takes to create high-quality 3D images from 40 to 60 hours to only a few.

The move to business customers marks a shift in focus for Snap, which has most of its revenue coming from digital advertising.
