Apple, a California based company is known for making high-quality phones. The handsets make headlines for their durability and features. But today, the first generation iPhone is shaking the internet by selling at a whopping price tag of $54,904, according to a MacRumors report.

The original price of the phone when it was released in 2007 was priced at $599 (roughly 49 thousand rupees). And shockingly, the auctioned amount translates to over 45 lakh in Indian currency. The iPhone was put on sale by “RR Auction on behalf of a former Apple employee.”

“Unopened first generation original Apple iPhone, Model A1203, Order MA712LL/A (8GB),” the report states. Talking of the plastic-wrapped box of the phone, it features a picture of the phone with 12 icons on the home screen. This is indicative of an older model from 2007, as the 13th addition to the icon list in the form of iTunes came later. The description claims it is a “factory-sealed” unit.

Plus, it is “accompanied by an AT&T bag and leaflet regarding rate plans and iPhone activation.” The owner stated that the purchase of the phone was soon after the release. Another handset was obtained by the consignor during employment at Apple, rendering the phone to be in the seal-packed condition to date.

According to Computerworld, the first generation iPhone was launched by Steve Jobs on January 9, 2007. The phone became a hit due to the interactive touch display panel at the time. Speaking of other auctions, an iPhone 11, attested by Apple CEO Tim Cook, sold for close to $4,000 (roughly Rs. 3,30,000).
