In recent years, augmented reality (AR) technology has exploded in popularity, most notably through the popular photo messaging app Snapchat. Now, Snap Inc. – the parent company of Snapchat – is taking its AR technology one step further by launching its first venture into selling the technology to business customers.

With their new AR Enterprise Services (ARES) division, Snap is aiming to help companies build AR features into their websites or apps to enhance photos and videos of the real world with computerised images.

The move to business customers marks a shift in focus for Snap, which has most of its revenue coming from digital advertising. With this new venture, Sn'ap is looking to diversify its revenue by opening up a new stream of income. While the pricing model has yet to be revealed, it’s possible that Snap could earn a cut of product sales driven by its AR tools.
