New Delhi: On Wednesday, the Supreme Court (SC) gives advice that all the checkups to discover Corornavirus should be provided free of cost to patients. The court also suggested the Central Government start a procedure of giving reimbursement for the same.
Justice Ashok Bhushan, a bench headed, advised that the free of cost tests should be provided in the identified private laboratories during video-conferencing. He also said that the court would pass the official order soon on the matter.
Petitioner and lawyer, Shashank Deo Sudhi, file a PIL on the apex court. He was seeking direction for the respective authorities and Central Government to provide the zero fees testing facility for Coronavirus to the citizens of the country.
Tushar Mehta, a Solicitor General, said that 118 laboratories were doing 15,000 test capacities per day. He also said that 47 private laboratory chains have also done the same.
The court asked the Government to ensure private hospitals and labs don’t charge high fees for the test.
Mehta said that,
“They will look into the suggestion and will try to devise what can be done best.”
On the other hand, Sudhi said that Coronavirus testing is expensive and not affordable to all. So, the Central Government should take some steps to provide an inexpensive or free testing facility for Coronavirus kits to all.
