UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak conceded defeat to Labour Party leader Keir Starmer as the Conservatives headed towards a historic defeat in the elections.
Trends indicated that the Labour Party would attain a majority in the House of Commons, putting Starmer on track to become the next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom.
Rishi Sunak Lost General Elections Of UK
Rishi Sunak stated that there was a “sobering verdict” and a lot to learn and consider.
Sunak, the first African-American prime minister of the UK, stated, “The British people have delivered a sobering verdict tonight… and I take responsibility for the loss.”
“The Labour Party has won this general election, and I have called Keir Starmer to congratulate him on his victory,” he further said.
Rishi Sunak Said ‘I am Sorry’ To British People
Sunak won his northern England constituency of Richmond and Northallerton with 47.5% of the vote while eight Conservative cabinet ministers lost their seats.
“To the many good Conservative candidates who worked hard and lost tonight, despite their tireless efforts, their local records and deliveries, and their commitment to their communities. Sunak said, “I am sorry.”
Sunak Took Over as PM in 2022
In 2022, Rishi Sunak succeeded Liz Truss as Prime Minister, who resigned after only 45 days in office.
After 14 years in power, the Conservative Party faced challenges on a variety of fronts, particularly its economy management after a turbulent EU exit.
The Tories are believed to have lost money due to a crisis in the cost of living, which saw inflation reach 11.1% in 2022.
‘We Will Return Politics To Public Service’ – Starmer
In the meantime, Keir Starmer stated to reporters in central London that the upcoming Labour government would be responsible for “nothing less than renewing the ideas that hold our country together.”
Starmer stated, “We must return politics to public service…a burden has finally been removed from the shoulders of this great nation.”
The voters were also frustrated by the government’s mismanagement of the COVID-19 pandemic and the healthcare system, opinion polls had revealed.
