Nakul Duggal, head of automotive at Qualcomm, noted that combining functions that were previously handled on different chips could help reduce costs.

Duggal told Reuters that there is a clear reduction in the number of physical boxes, down to one single box, and that the amount of memory needed and the number of extra external components also decrease.

In the last few years, Qualcomm has been steadily growing its automotive business and in September stated that its automotive business opportunities totaled $30 billion (roughly Rs. 2.5 lakh crore).

As electric vehicles become more popular and autonomous features become more prevalent in cars, the demand for automotive chips has seen a considerable increase and the automotive market has been a major contributor to the growth of chipmakers.

Duggal indicated that automotive customers are currently testing the new chip and it is expected to be released commercially in the first half of 2021.

Qualcomm’s Wi-Fi 7 Immersive Home Platform technology is designed with a modular chipset architecture, providing more than 20GBps of total system capacity. This processor technology is created to facilitate collaboration, telepresence, AR/VR, and gaming in current and future homes. The company expects to begin commercial sales of this product in the second half of 2023.
