About The Movie

The movie depicts the real-life scene of the Jallikattu festival which is also known as sallikkattu and is based on the Hareesh S short story-‘Maoist.’ Jallikautu is a traditional festival of Tamil Nadu where the bull or buffalo is set free into the crowd on the scheduled day of its slaughter.

Here’s the trailer of the Jallikattu in case you haven’t watched the movie yet:

At first, it seems only a tradition came into the picture but the story and screenplay beautifully reflect the emotions and ground problems associated with the festival.

It’s a beast vs animal screenplay that displays the violence against animals in the name of masculinity. The movie is a 2019 great hit with a good cast like Chemban Vinod, Sabumon Abdusamad, Antony Varghese, and Santhy Balachandran.

This Malayalam film is must-watching because of the visual experience and strong display of machismo where the movie took a turn from man vs wild to a man turning wild.

Here’s how the audience is reacting to this oscar nominee and sharing memes criticizing Bollywood:

Last year where Gully Boy failed to win the Oscar despite making its way to the 92nd Academy Award. Hope that this tale of machismo and tradition brings an Oscar to the country.

On February 9, 2021, 10 movies will be further shortlisted from the nomination and the awards would be announced by the jury on 25 April 2021.
