8th November, Monday marked the beginning of the four-day-long auspicious festival of Chhath Puja. People of UP, Jharkhand, Bihar, and Nepal are celebrating it with full fervor but visuals from Delhi ghats are raising the environmental alarm. A large number of devotees were seen taking bath in the foam-filled Yamuna River.

The entire river is filled with hazardous chemicals such as phosphate and ammonia which were released as industrial pollutant discharge. Ammonia level was 2.2 ppm when measured two days ago. Poor air quality index and toxic waste from the Yamuna have doubled the concern of Delhi.

Upon this, BJP MP Manoj Tiwari has questioned DDMA and Arvind Kejriwal for not prohibiting people from celebrating Chhath Puja 2021. He said that government is not serious about it and has also made a false claim about cleaning the river.
