New School Bag Policy in MP: Students to Get Freedom From Heavy Bags, Too Much Homework

New School Bag Policy MP: Big relief for school kids inthe state. The state issued a new school bag policy for students in line with National Education Policy.

The new policy has guidelines regarding the minimum and maximum weight of bags a student can carry. It will be applicable to both state and private schools in the state.

Apart from the burden of bags, the new policy gives relief from homework and books as well.

The School Education Department has decided on the maximum weight of bag a student can carry to school. However, the bar is different for students belonging to different classes.

  • Class 1- 2: weight should be between 1.6 and 2.2 kgs
  • Class 3-5: weight should be between 1.7 and 2.5 kgs
  • Class 6 and 7: weight should be between 2 and 3 kgs
  • Class 8-10: the maximum weight is 4.5 kgs

Guidelines regarding books are also issued in the policy. Students should carry only NCERT books allowed by the Centre. No books for computer, moral education, and general knowledge class.

No Homework

The new policy also has guidelines for giving homework to students till class 5. Teachers can give only 2 hours of homework per week to students from classes 3 to 5.

And students below class 3 will get no homework at all. For classes 6 to 8, one hour of homework per day is set whereas it is 2 hours/day for higher classes.

A Day Without a School Bagblank

Don’t be shocked if the school asks your kids not to bring bags to school once every week.

It is a part of the new policy and is mandatory for all schools in MP. This is to lessen the burden on small kids and also to involve them fully in vocational activities.

To ensure that all the guidelines mentioned in the new school bag policy are followed by schools in MP, DEO will investigate every 3 months by visiting schools.

Madhya Pradesh is not the only state who have thought of lessening the burden on school kids.

Maharashtra is also implementing such a fruitful policy that includes the addition of blank pages in textbooks to reduce the need for textcopies.
