Nashik Oxygen Leakage: 22 Patients Died, 35 Critical

Amid oxygen shortage across the country, very horrible news is coming from the highest covid spot of the country. On Wednesday afternoon, an Oxygen tank cause deaths to more than 10 patients in one of the hospitals of Nashik. The incident is at Nashik’s Dr. Zakir Hussain hospital where an oxygen tanker arrived at the hospital premises to deliver oxygen for the patients in need.

But, the tanker leaked outside the hospital during the refilling process. The gas continued to spread in the surrounding for around 30 minutes. However, a team of fire brigades reached the location and controlled the further spread of oxygen. Meanwhile, the supply of oxygen was cut off to prevent any severe accident. At that time, around 175 patients were on oxygen and 67 on the ventilator.

According to reports, 22 patients have died and more than 30 patients are under severe condition. Around 20 kg of gas is wasted in the accident. This unfortunate incident is now a subject of inquiry and FDA Minister of Maharashtra, Dr. Rajendra Shingane said, ” Those who are responsible will not be spared.”

Upon this, the Health Minister of the state Rajesh Tope said more information is required to know what caused the gas leakage. Maharashtra CM, Devendra Fadnavis demanded a detailed inquiry in the matter and said that the incident is very disturbing and terrible.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah has also expressed the grievance on the death of patients due to oxygen leakage in Nashik.

Such an incident at a time when the country is facing an acute shortage of this life-saving gas is very horrible and concerning. Cases of stealing oxygen cylinders and deaths due to the unavailability of oxygen have been rising in the country. Till now, around 61, 343 people have died in Maharashtra alone due to covid-19 and the total count reached 183 K in the country.
